How I Got Into K-Pop….

Ahmmmmm Yesssss. Even today ‘I need you’ by BTS sounds great and relaxing as it was the first time I listened it. In these hard times, while staying at home and protecting myself from the pandemic, K-pop is protecting me from getting bored and getting sick of staying at home. Today I will tell you How I Got Into K-Pop.

K-Pop wasn’t the first thing in South Korea I fell for. Before K-Pop I fell in love with K-Dramas. They are awesome. The first one was Boys Over Flowers (2009). After this I was binge watching a lot of dramas. My YouTube home page was filled with K-Drama related videos. While scrolling through it I stumbled on the song which dragged me to the world of K-Pop. The song was ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears’ by BTS. Immediately I fell in love with everything, the costumes, the makeup, the song, the m/v, the members, the choreography, the concept, the music, everything. With this I was introduced to BTS and the world of K-Pop.

After some time I was introduced to BlackPink with their super hit debut song ‘Boombayah’. Exo and Twice were next and now the whole K-Pop industry. Last year I went to the K-Pop fest in Delhi just to see IN2IT and Alexa. It was a next level experience.

But no matter how many groups I encounter, the only group with which I can connect is BTS. I connect with them so much that their MAMA 2018 winning speech made me cry. BTS has always addressed the ARMY first and then someone else. Once a ARMY is always a ARMY. Their song ‘WE ARE BULLETPROOF: THE ETERNAL’ is dedicated to the ARMY. It feels so good when your idol writes a song about you all.

That is it for today. Stay safe and stay home. And lets sing “Hit You With A Ddu Du Ddu Du” to the pandemic.

  1. Boys Over Flowers was THE K-drama of the decade back when it was released! I enjoyed it even though it was a bit cringy here and there. But Kim Hyun-Joong was what really kept me watching. I loved the character he played and in all honesty, felt she the OC should have ended up with him.

Did you watch the Chinese version Meteor Garden? It was a re-boot on Neflix back in 2018. More modern, less violent bullying, and a touch funnier. I prefer it over the original. The last episode was not very good though – I felt they were just stretching it out to finish it off. But other than that, I really enjoyed the whole series!
